Winwyn Marquez clarifies statement about trans women candidates in Miss Universe

After receiving backlash because of her statement about trans women joining the Miss Universe pageant, Reina Hispanoamerican 2017 Teresita Ssen “Winwyn” Marquez explained what she said in a Twitter post.

Winwyn posted a statement on her Twitter account, expressing her support to Miss universe Spain Angela Ponce, the first transgender woman to join Miss Universe after saying that for her, the pageant should be given to natural-born women as trans women have their own prestigious beauty pageant, but will respect whatever the organization’s decision is.

She wrote: “Wag lang po sana hanggang headline lang tayo. I said I would prefer that Miss U would have natural-born women, but I will support Angela and the Miss U org in any endeavor they choose to commit themselves to. If pasasalihin talaga, then I have no problem with it and we all have to accept and respect yung decision, kahit iba ang opinion ko. Parang nung INIMBITAHAN na sumali ang PH sa RHA madami nag-react at nagbigay ng sariling opinion nila. Yung ibang hindi sang-ayon nung sumali ako pero rinespeto pa din nila ang decision ng org at RINESPETO din nila ako at hindi binastos.”
