Actor Gene Hackman, wife found dead at their home

Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman and his wife, pianist Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in their home in New Mexico. According to authorities, there was no immediate indication of foul play.

Known for his commanding screen presence and ability to bring complex characters to life, Hackman leaves behind a legacy of cinematic excellence spanning more than six decades.

Hackman landed his breakthrough role in Bonnie and Clyde (1967) as Buck Barrow, earning his first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. His career-defining moment came in 1971 when he starred as the relentless Detective Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle in The French Connection.

He is best remembered for portraying Lex Luthor in the Superman films. His other movies include ‘The Firm’ and ‘The Unforgiven.”

Hackman retired from acting in 2004, with his final film being ‘Welcome to Mooseport’.
