Kapamilya actress Angel Locsin took to Instagram to point out a disheartening reality for Filipinos around the country who are obliged to continue to put themselves at risk of getting infected by the coronavirus because of their livelihoods.
Despite measures enacted by the government to enforce social distancing, Filipinos are concerned about their day to day living as well as their long term prospects for their jobs if they decide to stay at home. Furthermore, the nature of some jobs (such as construction work, healthcare, and the hotel and restaurant industry) do not allow for work at home policies.

Angel’s post begins.
(Amidst the rise of the coronavirus, nobody in their right mind would want to go out to crowded places to face the possibility of getting infected or becoming a carrier of the disease.)
(We all know that social distancing and proper hygiene is important but this knowledge is not enough for our fellow countrymen who need to make a living every day just to eat and fulfill their family’s basic needs, such as payment for rent, electricity, water, and more.)
(A lot of our fellow countrymen are also contractual workers, self-employed, and small store owners that rely on their capacity to earn on a daily basis and are burdened by debt.)
(If the government could provide financial support for these workers, they will no longer need to risk their lives by going out. It would also be a huge help if there was a temporary stop on amortizations and loans, or even a removal of interest and penalties.)
(Hopefully, utility companies such as electricity and water could also make some considerations in light of those who have been affected by their work. For companies that have helped their employees, hopefully they will be given a tax break so that the company will not suffer.)
Angel also expresses her hope that Philhealth would consider shouldering treatment for all patients that have been infected with the coronavirus.
“Kaya natin ‘to”
(Thank you very much to our public officials, police, military, and more who have created and are enforcing laws for our safety. Thank you very much as well to the real idols, our tireless health workers. We can do this.)
On March 17, 2020, 187 people have been affected by COVID-19 around the country and twelve have died. Four have recovered.
