Actor Derek Ramsay narrated that despite living in modern times, his family still observed the tradition of ‘pamamanhikan’ – formally asking permission to the parents of Ellen Adarna before marriage.
In an online interview with Dr. Vicki Belo, Derek said his mom wants to go to Cebu to speak with Ellen’s parents regarding the wedding. But given the current pandemic, doing such is not possible – so he organized a Zoom ‘pamamanhikan.’
“We cant go because of the quarantine. No they can’t, they can’t, my parents, I don’t want to risk my parents. We organized a Zoom version of the ‘pamanhikan,’ because as my mom says, I have to do that,” said Derek.
“I spoke to the mom asking permission for her hand and she said okay but no return no exchange,” added Derek.
