After several years away from the limelight, acclaimed Filipino actor Derek Ramsay is stepping back into the world of dramatic storytelling with a key role in the much‑anticipated TV series The Kingdom: Magkabilang Mundo. This marks a meaningful comeback for the seasoned performer, who has spent recent years focused on family and personal growth.
Known for his charismatic screen presence and versatility across genres, Ramsay surprised fans when he quietly stepped back from showbiz, even joking at one point that he was “retired.” But life—and opportunity—had other plans.
Over the past few months, the actor revealed in interviews that while he never expected to return to acting, the story and scope of The Kingdom: Magkabilang Mundo gave him a reason to say yes.
“I never thought I’d come back. I thought I was done,” he said. “I was focused on my family, I was focused on my next chapter.” said Derek.
“I felt like God was telling me, this is what you should do to get your mind off everything that’s happening. So, I listened and I loved the project.” he said.
“I’m gonna focus on this and of course, that won’t take away my priorities but I always have that attitude when I start something, I’ll give it my best.” Derek added.
Despite his long absence, the actor’s professionalism and commitment have shone through. Ramsay has openly shared that attending the story conference felt like returning to school: “Parang baguhan ulit ang dating,” he admitted, reflecting both his nerves and deep respect for the craft.
The series is a continuation of the 2024 hit film The Kingdom, set in an alternate Filipino history where the nation was never colonized. It promises a world rich with political intrigue, complex characters, and epic storytelling. Ramsay takes on the role of Rajah Siyam, a character noted for his strength, intelligence, and moral complexity. Early teasers suggest that Rajah Siyam will be a central figure in the series’ high-stakes narrative.
