Former Environment and Natural Resources secretary Gina Lopez passed away on Monday, August 19, due to multiple organ failure. She was 65.
In a statement released by ABS-CBN, the philanthropist and environmentalist who served as the the long-time chairperson of ABS-CBN Foundation Inc. (AFI) inspired people with her tireless commitment to her advocacies.

ABS-CBN wrote: “Gina was the pillar of strength that pushed AFI to achieve what seemed to be impossible. Her caring heart and selfless kind of love inspired people within and beyond the organization to help and serve others.”
“While we mourn with Gina’s family and loved ones, we also pray that her legacy continues to live on in the heart of every Kapamilya she had touched in her lifetime,” ABS-CBN added.
Among Gina’s notable projects and advocacies were the Bantay Bata 163, Bantay Kalikasan, and other programs under ABS-CBN Foundation. She also pushed for several campaigns including Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig, No To Mining in Palawan, and the reforestation of the La Mesa Watershed and presented the television program “G Diaries” which supports ecotourism.
