Imelda Marcos faces arrest after being found guilty of graft

Ilocos Norte Representative Imelda Marcos was found guilty of 7 counts of graft charges and was sentenced to imprisonment of 6 years and 1 month to 11 years maximum for each count.

In a report by ABS-CBN News, the Sandiganbayan 5th Division, on Friday, November 9, found the former first lady guilty of the said charges for using her Cabinet position to maintain Swiss bank accounts during the regime of her late husband and former president Ferdinand Marcos and ordered the the issuance of arrest warrants against her.

Mrs. Marcos and her counsel were not present in the courtroom during the reading of verdict.

The court then gave the lawmaker 30 days to explain their absence in the promulgation.

Apart from imprisonment, Mrs. Marcos is also facing perpetual disqualification from public office.
