Actress and TV host Kim Chiu stepped onto the stage of “It’s Showtime” wearing an elegant yellow Filipiniana, its delicate embroidery catching the light with every move. The audience applauded, impressed by how regal she looked. She smiled shyly, adjusting her sleeves, clearly enjoying the moment.
Co-host Darren Espanto and Amy Perez praised Kim’s outfit then Jackie Gonzaga said the following.
“Grabe ka, Kim,” Jackie said, eyes wide in admiration. “Mukha kang Lakambini!”
“Mali ata ’yon,” Kim said.
A ripple of surprise moved through the stage. Some hosts exchanged glances. Everyone knew the context. The name Lakambini wasn’t just a poetic word; it carried weight, history, and a painful chapter Kim had fought hard to put behind her. A case had been filed. Boundaries had been drawn.
