Netizen claims Miss Vietnam’s answer in Miss Universe translated incorrectly

Early crowd favorite Miss Vietnam H’Hen Nie made it to the Top 5 of the Miss Universe pageant only to fell short to make it to the Top 3. People are wondering what happen and why she failed to make it.

The critical moment for the Top 5 finalists was the Q&A portion. Miss Vietnam was asked the following question and her answer was translated by an interpreter provided by the Miss Universe organization.

Question: The #MeToo movement has sparked a global conversation. In response, some have said the world has become too politically correct? Do you think the #MeToo movement has gone too far?

Answer: I don’t think that it has gone too far. Protecting women and women’s right are the right things to do. Women need protections and rights.

According to one netizen named Audrey who claimed to be a Vietnamese native speaker, the answer of H’Hen Nie was translated incorrectly. In a Twitter post, Audrey said:

“I’m a Vietnamese native speaker and this is Miss Vietnam’s fully translated and accurate answer: “Protecting women’s well-being/health and protecting women from sexual abuse is the right that every women need. Everyone of us needs to be protected and we need freedom. Thank you.”

Could this be the reason why Miss Vietnam failed to make it to the Top 3?
