In a Facebook post, a netizen expressed concern over Gerald’s use of the pin and wrote: “I have nothing personal against Gerald Anderson. I do not know him personally nor have we ever met. But is his wearing the Scout Ranger TABAK in the Star Magic Ball authorized? Is this proper? A wife of a junior officer brought this to my attention. It bothered her sensitivities…so did mine. It is not an accessory to wear and display but an honor and distinction to be earned. Soldiers die trying to earn this privilege given only to a chosen few.

Can someone of authority look into this and enlighten us please?”

In a report by CNN Philippines, Army spokesperson Lt. Col Demy Zagala gave a statement regarding Gerald’s use of his pin which he earned after a training course with other celebrities for an upcoming show.

Zagala said: “He takes pride in what he was able to overcome in that training and he was able to deepen his appreciation with regards to the noble profession of arms.”

“We take his gesture of support positively as it raises public awareness about the hardships and sacrifices our soldiers have to endure for the country,” he added.
