Sen. Imee Marcos expressed her honest thoughts and sentiments when she was asked about her relationship with her mother, former First Lady Imelda Marcos.
In the latest YouTube vlog of TV host Boy Abunda, he featured Sen. Imee for an interview. During the interview, Sen. Imee admitted that she had a ‘troubled relationship’ before.
“During that time, people would talk about how fond your father was of you. But people would say that there was some friction between you and your mother.” Tito Boy told Sen. Imee.
“Yes that’s right. My mom was really a troubled relationship in the very beginning. Unang una, it became really tense for a very simple reason. Lahat nagsasabi, ‘hindi mo kamukha yung nanay mo.’ Sabi ko, ‘oo nga e.’ tapos naiinis ako, nagagalit ako.
Bandang huli natauhan na ako, pag sinabi na saakin, ‘hindi mo naman kasi kamukha yung nanay mo ‘no.’ sasabihin ko, ‘bakit sino ba kamukha ng nanay ko? Nag iisa na napakagandang tao sa buong mundo yan. Wala namang kamukha yung nanay ko.’” Sen. Imee shared.
“I think it’s very difficult and my mother and I are not the same sa ugali. I feel like all the Ilocano traits seem to have come to me very nerdy, very hardworking. But as time passes, you realize that you are that person in a way.
Firstly my undying commitment to the arts to Filipino artists. Parang siyempre siya yun e ano… and that resilience, the unsinkable Imelda… so as time has passed, I begin to get her, learn from her and the real worry is I might become her.” Sen. Imee added.
“Was it a pressure? I am not looking like mom?” Tito Boy asked Sen. Imee.
“Yeah. It’s a big deal when I was small… Para kaming mga baraha na shinaffle, kasi there are things that come out in me and come out with someone else. It’s very funny. So a mix up kami ng todo todo.
Yung pagka-tisoy konting konti lang. Yung lighter eyes, ako, that’s the one and only thing that I achieved.” Sen. Imee shared.
