ABS-CBN chairman Mark Lopez and ABS-CBN president and CEO Carlo Katigbak was asked by Rep. Michael Defensor if they sought the help of actress Kris Aquino to get its franchise renewed during the time of President Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino III.
Both executives said they never spoke to Kris about the network’s franchise renewal during the Aquino administration.

“The prerogative to grant or deny a franchise rests solely on Congress. While we’re here to prove the committee that there is a good reason why our franchise should be renewed, at the end of the day, we respect the rule of law.” said Katigbak
Rep. Defensor also asked why it is only now that the ABS-CBN talents and workers are speaking out?
“Sa ngayon nagsasalita po yung mga artista at empleyado kasi tinanggal na po kami sa ere. I think more than any other reason, that’s the reason why people started speaking out,” Katigbak said.
