Beatrice Luigi Gomez of Cebu City was crowned as new Miss Universe Philippines 2021. The coronation night was held at Hennan Resorts in Panglao, Bohol. Beatrice bested 27 other candidates and will represent the Philippines at the 2021 Miss Universe Competition in Israel in December.
Beatrice is the first member of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community to win the Miss Universe Philippines 2021.
“I honestly believe that our country has definitely been in a long way in battling our fight for equality, especially for the LGBTQIA+ community. Our country has been very supportive, and I definitely think we are definitely ready to send someone, an LGBTQIA+ member, to the Universe,” said Beatrice during the Q&A.
Taguig’s Katrina Dimaranan won Miss Universe Philippines Tourism, while Cavite’s Victoria Vincent bagged Miss Universe Philippines Charity. Pangasinan’s Maureen Christa Wroblewitz as 1st runner-up, and Cebu Province’s Steffi Rose Aberasturi as 2nd runner-up.
