Arnold wrote in the post’s caption: “Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa succeeded the Philippines’ Catriona Gray as she was crowned Miss Universe 2019.
“Her statement, ‘I grew up in a world where women who look like me with my kind of skin and my kind of hair was never considered to be beautiful. And I think that it is time that that stops today. I want children to look at me and see my face and I want them to see their faces reflected on mine. Thank you.’
@msuniverseph @zozitunzi 👏👏👏👏👏 Congratulations #respect #gamechanger #color #blackisbeautiful #stop”
The netizen then commented, saying: “Uy grabe naman Igan that’s a no!!!”
Arnold clarified his post and responded to the netizen: “Huh? Yan ang advocacy niya. Have you watched it? Nabasa mo caption ko? Mga hashtag? Sabi nga sa Eat Bulaga, wag kang judgemental. Have a nice day.”
Miss South Africa earlier expressed her advocacy during her closing statement in the competition, saying: “I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me — with my kind of skin and my kind of hair — was never considered to be beautiful. I think it is time that stops today. I want children to look at me and see my face, and I want them to see their faces reflected in mine.”
