Actress Iza Calzado gave her reaction as she is being pitted against Judy Ann Santos amid the screening of their respective Metro Manila Film Festival entries ‘Culion’ and ‘Mindanao’.
In her interview with Pep, Iza shared how she feels happy to be compared with Judy Ann whom she considers as her idol but clarified that their friendship is more important than any award she could ever receive.

Iza said: “Happy na ako na may laban ako. Yung may magsabi sa akin na may laban ako kahit papano, kahit kakaunti, okay na ako dun. She won in Cairo and I really put her on a pedestal kasi that’s why ang hirap, ‘no?
“It would be hypocritical of me to say that an award doesn’t matter. It does because it motivates you, it’s like a prize parang when you do good in school. But mas importante sa akin ang pagkakaibigan namin at mas importante sa akin kung sino talaga ang nararapat na mabigyan nun.”
Iza then expressed her admiration to Judy Ann, saying: “I haven’t seen her film pero kasi bilang idolo ko siya, parang hindi ko talaga matanggal sa utak ko, ‘Siyempre, mas magaling siya sa akin!’ Yung ganun, ‘Idolo ko siya, e!’
“Hindi mo matatanggal yun, e, kaya yun ngang masabi mo lang na dumikit kahit konti, ‘Oh my god!’ Malaking pamasko na yun para sa akin!”
‘Culion’ which starsIza along with Meryll Soriano and Jasmine Curtis Smith, and ‘Mindanao’ starring Judy Ann are being screened in selected cinemas nationwide as part of this year’s MMFF.
