“As I’ve said earlier tweet – Italy & the US did a temporary country lockdown, not a local one. If checkpoints will be set up in NCR to allow workers to come in Metro Manila… then why do a lockdown? It’s unncessary for the ordinary Filipino that just needs to go to work #covid19”

For clarification, the lockdown has since been redefined as a community quarantine. A lockdown mandates citizens to stay inside their homes while the government takes on the responsibility to distribute relief goods. A community quarantine prevents people from traveling from one city to another, so as to prevent the spread of the disease. However, they are still free to continue going about their day-to-day lives within their own cities.

As of writing, the Philippines has 49 confirmed cases and one death from the coronavirus. In contrast, the US already has 1,600 confirmed cases and 41 deaths. Italy is struggling to combat the coronavirus, with the death toll rising from 189 patients to 1,016 between March 12, 2020, to March 13, 2020. Within these twenty-four hours, patients that have tested positive for the coronavirus have jumped from 12,462 to 15,113.
