Here are more of netizens’ sentiments over Catriona’s winning answer:
It actually shouldn't hit a nerve if I say that personally, Catriona's take on poverty is problematic. This has been consistent since her preliminary speech up to the final answer. But can her viewpoint be radicalized? The answer is yes.
Let people criticize her answer.

Did Catriona romanticized poverty? Yes!
Is it enough to describe her as ignorant? Big NO!
Scrutinizing her Q&A without considering her advocacy and hard-work, it’s very wrong!
She don’t stop looking at the silver lining, she’s a progressive woman! @catrionaelisa #MissUniverse

I appreciate the discourse and discussion on her answer. Personally I think she romanticized poverty but it doesn’t mean she’s being ignorant. Ang daming opportunities to explain to her that overcoming poverty takes more than just looking at the silver lining or being grateful.
