Barangay Jaen, Nueva Ecija has become the ground zero for the discovery of the highly pathogenic H5N6 avian influenza. This disease has the potential to infect humans as well; however, there are no recorded cases of the strain infecting humans as of writing.
Samples from a farm collected last March 13 in Barangay Ulanin-Pitak were scrutinized and tested. The results returned as positive for the avian influenza.
