Kiko Pangilinan resigns as Liberal Party president after ‘Otso Diretso’ defeat

Sentor Francis ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan reportedly resigned as the president of Liberal Party after the ‘Otso Diretso’ slate’s defeat in recently held mid-term elections.

Pangilinan said in a Facebook post that he is “primarily accountable” over the loss of the opposition candidates Gary Alejano, Bam Aquio, Chel Diokno, Samira Gutoc, Florin Hilbay, Romulo Macalintal, Mar Roxas, and Erin Tañada which prompted him to step down as LP president.

“As campaign manager for the Otso Diretso slate, I was unable to ensure our victory in the elections and I therefore assume full responsibility for the outcome and hold myself primarily accountable for this defeat and have tendered my resignation as president of the LP effective June 30, 2019,” Pangilinan wrote.

Pangilinan’s resignation letter was reportedly handed to LP chairperson and Vice President Leni Robredo.
