Ice Seguerra takes on directorial role for ‘Eat Bulaga’

In a move that feels both wildly unexpected and poetic, singer-songwriter Ice Seguerra is stepping into the director’s chair for Eat Bulaga, the longest-running noontime variety show in Philippine television history. For a artist who practically grew up in front of the nation’s eyes, this isn’t just a new gig; it’s a massive full-circle moment.

Decades ago, a three-year-old Ice (then known to the public as Aiza) captured the heart of the nation on Eat Bulaga’s “Little Miss Philippines” stage. That wasn’t just a debut; it was the start of a lifelong relationship with the show and its viewers.

Now, taking on the directorial reins means Ice isn’t just participating in the legacym Ice is shaping it.

Directing a live, multi-hour variety show is notoriously chaotic. It requires split-second decision-making, an innate sense of timing, and the ability to manage high-energy hosts, live audiences, and unpredictable segments.

But if anyone has the DNA of Eat Bulaga hardcoded into them, it’s Ice. Ice knows the rhythm of the show because he lived it. He knows what makes the audience laugh because he’s been making them laugh since childhood.

On Facebook, Ice shared some photos with the following caption:

“It’s my first day on the job!!!

I had trouble sleeping the past few days dahil sa kakaisip. While I’m used to directing concerts, live TV is a totally different animal. I have more to learn but I think today was a good day.

I want to thank Ate Jeny for the trust na kaya kong gawin Ito. Tita Poochie, mula 3 years old ako, you’ve been guiding me at hanggang ngayon, ikaw pa rin ang gabay ko sa bagong journey na Ito. To my controlmates, especially our CamTD Paul, thank you for making it easy for me.

Sa aking mahal, Liza, for the encouragement and for always believing in me. And to my mama, Caridad, ilang beses kang nag manifest noong nabubuhay ka pa. Eto na, mama! Nagkatotoo na!

Labyu, Eat Bulaga!!! ”

As the cameras roll and the iconic theme song hits the airwaves, a familiar voice is now calling the shots from the control room. For Eat Bulaga, it’s a exciting new chapter. For Ice, it’s a triumphant homecoming—just with a much better view of the whole stage.
