Podcasters face backlash for remarks on Josh Aquino

In the fast-paced, often unfiltered realm of digital content creation, the boundary between edgy humor and outright cruelty is frequently put to the test. This week, popular Filipino podcast Machong Chismisan crossed that line and the fallout was swift, decisive, and overwhelming.

What began as a typical riff on pop culture during their October 5 episode, titled “Ang Pagbabalik ni Kris Aquino,” quickly degenerated into a viral storm.

During the segment, host Tito P made disparaging and insensitive remarks targeting Joshua “Josh” Aquino, the eldest son of the “Queen of All Media,” Kris Aquino mocking his neurodivergence and labeling him with derogatory terms like “walang kuwenta”.

As clips from the episode spread across social media platforms over the past few days, public indignation reached a fever pitch. Netizens, public figures, and advocacy groups united in condemning the hosts, pointing out that punching down at a person with special needs is not comedy—it is harassment.

Faced with a wall of public anger, co-hosts Makoy Pare, Tito P, and Lawrence Vivar took down the offending episode and issued formal apologies online. Makoy Pare acknowledged full accountability, admitting that the remarks crossed acceptable boundaries and caused deep harm.

However, the public and corporate reaction proved that apologies alone were insufficient.

Targeting an innocent individual who cannot defend himself especially under the guise of casual banter—is no longer brushed off as simple “chitchat.” As audiences demand greater empathy and basic human decency from digital personalities, the lesson is clear: true humor lifts people up; it doesn’t tear down the vulnerable.
