Actor Derek Ramsay opened up on raising his son, Austin as he shared some details on how he disciplined him.
In a virtual interview ‘Rise Up Stronger: The Road to NCAA Season 96’, Derek talked about his relationship with Austin. During the interview, Derek also opened up on how he raised his son and he admitted that it was ‘tough’.
“You said in one of your interviews that you treat him as your bestfriend. So where do you draw the line between bestfriend and you know, being a father…” the host asked Derek.
“Yeah that’s tough. It’s really tough. I want him kasi to feel comfortable to come to me with anything. If he’s going through something, if he has any problems, gusto ko lumapit siya sa akin. But yeah, you still have to discipline. Sometimes he forgets about that.
So, it’s hard but you really have to put your foot down and say, ‘Hey, I’ve given you sufficient enough warning’ about certain things. If he keeps repeating it, I put my foot down and he gets grounded.” Derek shared.
“If I ground him for a week it will last siguro mga three to four days kasi masunurin naman siya, eh when I put my foot down. Minsan sumasagot and I have to remind him, ‘Hey, I’m still the boss. You’re living under my roof.’ He respects that and that’s what I like. In the beginning when he first moved, it was really really tough…”
“I don’t blame the child. He grew up in Dubai. So it was also hard for my son to adjust…It’s tough as a parent to see your child suffering when you ground them. But sometimes you really have to do it because it’s for their own good…” Derek added.
