Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong tenders his resignation as COVID-19 contact tracing czar

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong submitted his resignation as COVID-19 Contact Tracing Czar to Secretary Carlito Galvez. Magalong’s move has something to do with the birthday party of Tim Yap where Magalong attended.

In a report by ABS-CBN journalist Jeff Canoy for ABS-CBN News, Magalong said he is holding himself accountable for the missteps he made during the said event.

“I should have done an immediate spot correction of the errors that I witnessed during that time. Much as I have given my best to discharge my duties for the Task Force, this incident has been a reminder that a higher standard is always expected of me” Magalong said.

“It pains me to see my family, and my constituents, in anguish over this but I am committed hold myself accountable and do what is necessary to rectify this misstep” added Magalong.

“Should the Task Force or even the DILG deem it necessary to launch an investigation over my actions, I am ready and willing to cooperate” ended Magalong.

Meanwhile, Palace spokesman Harry Roque confirmed that Magalong had “tendered his resignation” but that it has been rejected.

“Mayor Magalong’s resignation, however, has not been accepted. He continues to enjoy the trust and confidence of the leadership of the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19.” said Roque in a statement.
