Celebrities react to Secretary Duque’s statement regarding UK travel ban

Celebrities, politicians and netizens reacted to a statement made by Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III concerning the implementation of travel bans from UK.

“Travel ban will be considered only once community transmission of the new variant has been recorded in the country,” Duque said during a briefing presided by President Rodrigo Duterte.

A new strain of COVID-19 was discovered in the United Kingdom (UK) and has reportedly reached countries like Japan, Singapore, Hongkong, New Zealand, Vietnam, Taiwan among others. The new strain is reportedly spreading faster than the original strain.

The health secretary also reported that one of the 79 passengers that arrived in the country from UK have tested positive for the COVID-19. The passenger is already brought to the New Clark City in Tarlac to complete 14-day quarantine.

Netizens, celebrities and politicians commentd on the latest pronouncement of the health secretary:

“Travel ban from countries with known mutant coronavirus must be highly considered now. We can not afford to be laid back, again, and wait for local transmission. Huwag naman Po.”

“This is incompetence, plain and simple.

This best explains why ours is the worst performing gov’t Covid response in the Asean and the rest of the Western Pacific region.”

“Juice ko, mas ok kung hindi ka na kapit-tuko sa pwesto. Bigay na yan sa ibang mas may alam. Please.”

“Consistency. But the stupid kind”
