Department Secretary Francisco Duque III said that opening of classes in August is safe for as long as minimum health standards would be followed by the education sector. The statement of the Health Secretary came after President Rodrigo Duterte already opposed the opening of classes unless their is already a vaccine for the COVID-19 virus.
“I will not allow the opening of classes na magdikit-dikit iyang mga bata. Bahala na hindi na makatapos. Unless I am sure that they are really safe, it’s useless to be talking about opening of classes…Para sa akin, bakuna muna.” said President Duterte.
