Lea Salonga expresses gratitude to U2 for including her in “HERstory” tribute

World-renowned singer and actress Lea Salonga expressed her gratitude to U2 who recently held their concert at the Philippine Arena last December 12 as part of their The Joshua Tree Tour.

On her Twitter account, Lea expressed her gratitude to the band led by Bono after she was included in the “HERstory” tribute where U2 honored the women who made a change in the history while they performed their song “Ultra Violet”.

Lea wrote: “Woke up this morning to at least ten messages with photos because my photo was on the projection wall during U2’s Ultra Violet. Wow, I am dead. Thank you for those messages, friends, and thank you, U2 for including me! Honored!”

Apart from Lea, other Filipino women who was included in the tribute were journalist Maria Ressa, Philippine Revolution heroine Melchora Aquino, zarzuela singer Maria Carpena, former president Cory Aquino, Senator Pia Cayetano, the #BabaeAko movement, the One Billion Rising movement, Grrl Gang Manila, youth activist and typhoon Haiyan survivor Marinel Ubaldo, activist Lidy Nacpil Alejandro, and environmental and indigenous rights advocate Joan Carling among others.

Women from around the world were also featured in the tribute including comedians Ellen Degeneres and Hannah Gadsby, primatologist Jane Goodall, protest punk band Pussy Riot, Syrian Olympic swimmer Yusra Mardini, AIDS awareness advocate Connie Mudenda, and climate activist and Time magazine’s Person of the Year Greta Thunberg.
