LGBTQ+ groups reacts to Isko Moreno’s “booking his son” joke

LGBTQ+ groups can’t help but react to Presidential aspirant Mayor Isko Moreno’s joke about ‘booking his son’, actor Joaquin Domagoso.

It can be recalled that in a campaign rally in Butuan City that was held recently, Mayor Isko jokingly said in front of the crowd, “Sa ating mga LGBT, mamaya ireregalo ko sa inyo si Joaquin, libre ang booking. Pero tikim lang, wag kakainin.”

The said joke of Mayor Isko caught the attention of netizens specially the LGBTQ+ groups as they expressed mixed reactions.

In an interview with ANC, Rey Valmores-Salinas of Bahaghari slammed the said joke of Mayor Isko.

“Firstly it’s dehumanizing, to stereotype the LGBT community as solely sex hungry and looking for bookings. That’s just not true. What we are looking for as a community is not bookings as Isko Moreno joked about. What we are looking for is equality. It’s way more than that.” Rey said.

“Second, Isko Moreno basically made a joke about pimping his child. In Filipino, pambubugaw. I wonder if Mayor Isko is familiar that during economic crisis… during COVID-19, there had been countless young people including minors who have been forced to sell nudes and other sensitive materials just to make ends meet so that they could fund their online education.”

“This is not a laughing matter. Most of all this is not something to be joked about by someone who is running for President… This kinds of jokes are not merely jokes for people like Isko Moreno who have a huge influence.

This statements fuel the cycle of violence that the LGBT community faces. To reduce us as a sex hungry people instead of people who demand equality and who are rightfully people which should be given equal service and equal democratic right…” Rey added.
