Philippine boxing icon and Senator Manny Pacquiao announced that he will run for president in the 2022 elections.
Pacquiao accepted the nomination of his PDP-Laban party at its national convention saying that the Filipino people have been waiting for a change of government.
“I am a fighter, and I will always be a fighter inside and outside the ring. I am accepting your nomination as candidate for president of the Republic of the Philippines.” said Pacquiao in a live-streamed speech.
On his Instagram account, Pacquiao posted the following:
“Today, I boldly accept the challenge of running as PRESIDENT of the Republic of the Philippines, with a message to those who are taking advantage of the Filipino people: YOUR TIME IS UP!
I AM A FIGHTER.
Sa buong buhay ko, wala akong laban na inatrasan. Ang Manny Pacquiao na kilala ninyo bilang pambansang kamao, ay walang ipinagkaiba sa Manny Pacquiao na kasama ninyo laban sa kahirapan at katiwalian. Higit sa sarili, bayan dapat ang mauna.
Dama ko ang nararamdaman ninyo. Alam ko ang hirap na nararanasan ninyo at alam ko pagod na pagod na kayo. Mga kababayan, we need progress. We need to win against poverty.
We need government to serve our people with integrity, compassion and transparency.
The time is now. We are ready to rise to the challenge of leadership.
Panahon na upang manalo naman ang mga naa-api. Panahon na upang makabangon ang bayan natin na lugmok sa kahirapan. Panahon na ng isang malinis na gobyerno, kung saan bawat sentimo ay mapupunta para sa bawat Pilipino.
Ako po ay naniniwala, even the impossible can happen if it is ordained by the Lord. Walang imposible kung ito ay itinakda ng ating Panginoon.
Kaya lalaban tayo! Samahan niyo po ako!
