Netizens react to Bb. Pilipinas candidate wearing Sto. Niño costume

Binibining Pilipinas candidate Joy Dacoron, who is representing Cebu province received mixed reactions from netizens after donning the vestments of Sto. Niño as her national costume.

On Instagram, Joy posted a video with the following caption:

“My costume symbolizes unwavering faith and pays tribute to our province’s patron. The Senor Sto. Nino de Cebu is a source of inspiration and strength of numerous Catholic faithful. I am one of those.

When I lost my father to an accident last year, I questioned God, “Ngano man, Lord? (Why, Lord?)” The Sto. Nino paved the way for me to shed off my doubts and made me realize that everything happens for a reason. In gratitude, I am sharing this faith to the national stage.

Thus, with pride and deep respect for our heritage, I wear this costume that signifies faith and gratefulness. Viva! Pit Senyor!”

Netizens can’t help but react to the said development:

– “As a Snr Santo Niño devotee this doesnt look good to me. I feel offended that these women will do anything just to get the attention they crave! and how funny that they always say this is to pay homage/tribute. For me it felt that you dont respect the devotees and the “Sacred Image” Sacred gani na tapos youll showcase it in a national stage where it becomes an entertainment!”

– “I know your intention is good but regardless of the back story unta dili nalang gamiton ang vestment sa balaang bata as National Costume as a respect nalang kay Sto.Niño, sa Catholic Community and sa tanang deboto ni Sto.Niño. There are a lot national costume pwede pilian but please not this. Goodluck on you Bb. Journey Ms. Joy,”

– “di ka ba kinilabutan sa suot mo?that’s not a gown, that’s a costume.kaya now ka lng napansin,sa pageant di ka kilala”

– “A mess. Bat ka naman ginawang santo? Mali yon. It’s foul for me.”

– “Very inappropriate. Please take this down. For your own good.”
