NTC orders recall of ABS-CBN’s frequencies and channels

The National Telecommunications Commission ordered the recall of all frequencies and channels assigned to ABS-CBN after the network failed to secure a new franchise from Congress. NTC said that without a franchise to operate, the commission is mandated to recall the frequencies.

This involves recalling Channel 2, 23 radio stations, 42 television stations, and 10 DTTB (digital terrestrial television broadcasting) stations.

“Indubitably, the denial of Respondent’s franchise renewal application by Congress, coupled with the denial of Respondent’s Petition by the Supreme Court, lead to no other conclusion except that Respondent had already lost the privilege of installing, operating, and maintaining radio broadcasting stations in the country,” NTC said.
