Pia Wurtzbach questions rejection of same-gender marriage and divorce bills

Actress and beauty queen Pia Wurtzbach expressed her honest thoughts and sentiments over the rejection of SOGIE, same-gender marriage, and divorce bills in the Philippines.

In her Instagram stories, Pia posted a screenshot of a news report regarding the said rejection of the legislative bills. Base on the said report, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla explained that the said recommendations was rejected as it is “not acceptable” citing that Philippines, being a pre-dominantly Catholic nation.

It appeared that Pia was saddened over the said news as she wrote:

“Waking up to this.. Are we going backwards as a nation?

The SOGIE bill has been a topic of discussion whenever I’m with my LGBTQIA+ friends and I’ve learned so much more about it over the years.

To be clear, it’s not about taking away any rights from straight people, and it’s not giving ‘special rights’ to the LGBTQIA+ community either

It’s about EQUALITY. Yung pantay pantay tayong lahat. So that our rights, safety, and well-being are protected. WE ALL NEED THIS. Kahit ikaw na straight makikinabang ka dito. Please if you haven’t, a quick google search will tell you what the SOGIE bill is all about.

Even divorce, same gender marriage, and safe abortions were rejected. Of the many recommendations that passed, why are these being excluded? Why does it seem like we use the religion card only when it’s convenient?”
