WATCH: Vico Sotto maintains he will not be involved in national politics

Aksyon Demokratiko executive vice president and Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto reacted to the claims of his party that he was one of those who ‘approved’ the presidential bid of Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno.

In the Twitter account of ABS-CBN News journalist Kat Domingo, she shared a short video taken when she interviewed Mayor Vico. During the interview, Mayor Vico was asked, “The Aksyon Demokratiko’s statement about you approving the presidential candidacy of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno was quite misleading. Can you tell me more about it?”

“Well, I did meet with them just like I met with others also. We met with more than one candidate. But I asked them nicely, and they agreed that I would not be involved in national politics. That has been my stand from before. And my reason is, I know some people may criticize me for not wanting to be involved in national politics.” Mayor Vico shared.

“But those people who will criticize me for that don’t understand the kind of battles that we’re facing here in the local government in Pasig. Hindi biro yung ginagawa namin dito na nililinis namin yung pamahalaan… it’s really not that easy, kung dadagdagan ko pa at I will try to fight another battle, baka hindi ko na kayanin. So I hope people will understand…” Mayor Vico added.

He was also asked, “Just to clarify, there’s no truth to Aksyon Demokratiko’s chairman Ernest Ramel’s statement that you were naipit, in his own words, naipit kay Tito Sen.”

“Of course I always respect, you know I love my uncle dearly, pero ganun din eh yun din ang napag kasunduan namin ni Tito Sen. I asked him nicely, sabi ko, ‘ninong hindi na muna ako mangingialam sa national politics ha’. He said ‘okay’. Kinausap ko yung leadership ng Aksyon including Earnest Ramel, Sabi ko sa kanila, hindi na muna ako mangingialam sa national politics kasi medyo matindi yung ginagawa natin dito sa local. And they said, ‘ Okay’. And not only that they said ‘okay’, they agreed…” Mayor Vico said.
