Rhea Santos bids goodbye to ‘Unang Hirit’ and GMA News after 19 years

Kapuso anchor Rhea Santos is officially leaving the morning show ‘Unang Hirit’ as well as her other shows in GMA News as she is set to migrate to Canada together with her family.

In an episode of the morning show, Rhea announced that she will be leaving ‘Unang Hirit’ this week after 19 years of being one of the anchors of the long time running program.

‘Unang Hirit’ wrote in an Instagram post: “After 19 years, mamamaalam na ang isa sa ating pinakamamahal na UH Barkada ngayong linggo! ?”

Apart from ‘Unang Hirit,’ Rhea also appeared in several Kapuso shows including ‘Frontpage,’ ‘At Your Service-Star Power,’ ‘Pinoy Abroad,’ ‘News on Q,’ ‘Women’s Desk,’ ‘DoQmentaries,’ ‘Reporter’s Notebook,’ and ‘Tunay Na Buhay’ among others.

After starting her journalism career in 2001, Rhea has been recognized by several award-winning bodies and received an award as Best Travel Show Host for ‘Pinoy Abroad,’ and several awards as Best Morning Show/Host for ‘Unang Hirit.’

While Rhea is set to leave the morning show, Kapuso reporter and anchor Mariz Umali was earlier welcomed as the new host of ‘Unang Hirit’.
