In a recent interview with One PH, veteran political analyst Ronald Llamas offered a biting critique of the modern celebrity-politician, specifically pointing to Senator Robin Padilla as a catalyst for the shifting tides in Philippine elections.
According to Llamas, the “Padilla effect” has become a double-edged sword that may be cutting short the political dreams of other artists.
Llamas suggests that because of the spotlight on Padilla, the “entry exam” for artists vying for political posts has become significantly harder.
“Alam mo, malaking tulong si Sen. Robin Hood Padilla.
“Dahil si Robinhood, nag-number one yan, e, nung tumakbo siya for the Senate. Llamas added.
The analyst notes that as the public observes Padilla’s transition, they are becoming more discerning of other celebrities. This creates a “guilt by association” effect where the shortcomings of one artist in office are projected onto others seeking to join him. If one artist struggles with the complexities of lawmaking, the electorate begins to question if any artist belongs there.
