Singer Leah Navarro declared as ‘persona non grata’ in GenSan over tweet about earthquake

Veteran singer Leah Navarro received backlash on social media following her tweet about the recent earthquake which affected areas in Mindanao.

On Twitter, Leah responded to Supreme Court Spokesman Atty. Theodore Te’s tweet about the series of earthquake that happened in Mindanao, saying: “What’s with all the earthquakes in Mindanao?”

Leah responded with a one-word tweet and wrote: “Retribution?”

According to a report by GMA News, Leah has been declared as persona non grata by The General Santos City Council over her tweet which has already been deleted.

Meanwhile, Leah aired her apology and said: “I apologized, deleted my tweet and regret the hurt I caused. It is their choice not to forgive. There’s nothing I can do about that.”

Atty. Te also deleted his tweet and apologized as well, mentioning how his “rhetorical, non-political, and personal” post that “invited hurtful replies from others.”

He wrote: “[1/2]: I have deleted a tweet and my reply-explanation to that tweet which, though unintended, have caused offense, pain, and hurt to family and friends in Mindanao where I am from, proud to be from, and which I love. …”

“2/2]…though my tweet was rhetorical, non-political, and personal, it invited hurtful replies from others whose tweets I cannot and do not control. I apologize for giving them that platform. To family and friends from Mindanao, please be assured of my prayers for your safety,” he added.
