Jose Mari Chan recalls time when his hit song ‘Christmas in our hearts’ came to life

Singer Jose Mari Chan recalled the time how his Christmas hit song titled, ‘Christmas in our hearts’ came to life.

In the latest YouTube vlog of reporter Bernadette Sembrano, she featured Jose for an interview. In the said vlog, Benadette and Jose had a great time as they had a meaningful and insightful conversation while they were having a meal.

During the interview, Jose talked about his Christmas hit song titled, ‘Christmas in our hearts’.

According to Jose, way back years ago, he wrote a poem titled ‘Ang Tubig Ay Buhay’ which he successfully set to music. Two years later after that, his record producer asked him to do a Christmas album.

“I have to come up with a melody. Then it occurred to me, that melody that I used for ‘Ang Tubig Ay Buhay’ pwede, pwede for a Christmas song. So I did the lyrics. We were working on a deadline… But I couldn’t finish the lyrics. I prayed to the Holy Spirit, literally to please enlighten me because I don’t want this melody to be wasted. I wanted to really embody the true meaning of Christmas…” Jose shared.

Jose recalled the time when a young budding songwriter named Rina Cañiza introduced herself to him and expressed her desire to work with him in the future.

“And then something whispered to me, ‘why didn’t you call her, maybe you could collaborate on the lyrics to this melody.’ So I did and Rina came to my house. I gave her the cassette of the melody. In a couple of days, she came back with the title, ‘Cristmas in Our Hearts’… So we work back and forth, correction here, correction there… Hindi namin magawa yung last verse…” Jose narrated as he also recalled the time where he was able to make the last verse of the song while he was looking at the sky.

Jose also shared that he called Lea Salonga for a duet to record the said Christmas hit song.

“Unfortunately, her recording company would not allow her to cross label, sayang.” Jose shared.

Jose also shared that he and Monique Wilson are set to record the said song. However, before their recording day, Monique lost her voice.

“Then, I don’t know who it was who suggested my daughter. And then my wife said, ‘don’t forget Liza came out in a school productions, the king and I and other musical and she has a good voice.’ So she learn it and so to make the long story short, we went into recording and the rest is history. And what a perfect combination for a Christmas song, father and daughter.” Jose shared.
