Hidilyn Diaz bags PH’s first gold in 2018 Asian Games

Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz made Filipinos proud once again after bagging the country’s first gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games held in Indonesia.

In a report by ABS-CBN, Hidilyn who won in the 53-kilograms event defeated 11 competitors after lifting a total of 207 kilograms— 92 kilograms in the snatch and 115 kilograms in the clean and jerk.

Compatriot Dessa Delos Santos meanwhile landed on 8th place after lifting a total of 180 kilograms.

Prior to Diaz’ victory, Philippines has won 4 bronze medals.

Diaz previously took home the country’s first Olympic medal in 20 years last 2016 after winning the silver medal in 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
